Custom Webhook

Custom Webhook is a flexible inbound source for tools that can send JSON but don’t have a dedicated OpenContact connector.

What you can do

  • Receive lead submissions from Zapier, Make, Typeform, LinkedIn Lead Gen, a custom form backend, or another automation tool.
  • Map nested JSON properties to email, first name, and last name using dot paths.
  • Run every accepted contact through the normal verification, list, rule, and outbound-webhook pipeline.

How to connect

  1. Inspect a sample payload from the sending tool and identify the path to its email value—for example, lead.email.
  2. In OpenContact, go to Connections → Custom Webhook and click Connect.
  3. Enter the email field path. First-name and last-name paths are optional.
  4. Go to Webhooks, find Inbound webhooks, and generate the Custom Webhook URL.
  5. Copy the URL immediately and configure the sending tool to POST JSON to it. The token in the URL is only shown once.

For this payload:

{
  "lead": {
    "email": "ana@example.com",
    "first": "Ana",
    "last": "Popescu"
  }
}

use lead.email, lead.first, and lead.last as the field paths.

Good to know

Email is required. A request with no value at the configured email path is acknowledged but ignored. Keep the generated URL private; its long token is the inbound credential. If it is exposed, generate a replacement URL and update the sender.
